Greenpest Termiproof

The Termiproof warranty requires that all termite managers complete the following examination before being accepted by Green Termite Bait Systems as an accredited Termiproof warranty issuer.

The purpose of the exam is twofold:

  • To ensure high standards of termite management.
  • To reveal if there are any specific areas of weakness, so that we can share our tried and tested techniques and any other useful knowledge that may enhance an operator's overall termite management skills.

Chemical Application to Soil

  • You have located active termites in a home and traced them to a nest in an old tree stump. How important is it to find and treat the entry point?
    • Why?
  • How would you find the entry point?
  • If you are doing a partial chemical soil treatment, would you use a repellent or non-repellent termiticide?
    • Why?
  • Under what circumstances would you recommend a partial chemical soil treatment?
  • When would you recommend a full perimeter soil treatment?
  • List three reasons why the Australian Standards advise and consider the technique of cutting and removing concrete adjoining the perimeter of a house, then trenching to the footings, more preferable than drilling and injecting the concrete.
  • List three considerations that all customers should be made aware of if they are going to have their concrete adjoining the perimeter of their house drilled and injected.
  • You are carrying out a soil treatment. It’s well known that some soils do not hold chemical particularly well. When should the soil be replaced?
  • What is the best soil to use with a non-repellent termiticide?
  • List two circumstances when drilling and injecting would be used to treat termites in a building.

The Green Termite Bait System

  • The Green Termite Bait has two windows in the top. Why are two better than one?
  • Does Termidor dust float well in your puffer bulb after shaking the puffer?
  • Under normal conditions, does Termidor dust flow well when used in a Green Termite Bait?
    • How can you tell?
  • What modifications need to be made to a termite puffer to facilitate a strong flow of Termidor dust?
  • How much Termidor dust is needed to treat an active Green Termite Bait to generally ensure colony elimination?
  • How would you easily measure this?
  • What is the approximate cost to treat a Green Termite Bait using Termidor dust assuming 5gm of dust costs $100.00 and you use .4g per treatment?
  • List three measurable signs of evidence that a correctly treated Green Termite Bait has resulted in a successful colony elimination.
  • Why are termite species Microcerotermes spp and Heterotermes spp not considered to be termites of economic significance?
  • When only one window is mudded up at the time of inspection we call it a ½ strike. If after two months the ½ strike remains a ½ strike, what are 3 reasons that may account for this?
  • Why do we suggest waiting two months?
  • After two months what is the correct procedure to treat a ½ strike?
  • Should an inactive bait with a ½ strike be replaced?
    • Why?
  • Which common species of arboreal termite found throughout mainland Australia is rarely found in an in-ground termite bait?
    • Why?
  • If you are servicing a customer who has the above species of termite around their home in abundance, what additional precautions would you advise?
  • What limitations would a Green Termite Bait have when used underneath a house in a dark subfloor void.
  • Green Termite Baits should be installed every 2 – 3 metres. Under what circumstances would they be installed further apart? List two instances.
  • When is core drilling a minimum diameter 103mm hole in concrete the only viable option to install a Green Termite Bait? Give two reasons.
  • If your customer won’t accept core drilling, what other alternatives could you offer?
  • When should a treated Green Termite Bait be replaced?
  • When should an untreated Green Termite Bait be replaced?
  • How long should a Green Termite Bait last in the soil?
  • What factors affect the aging process of the timber?
  • Under normal circumstances, is a Green Termite Bait more or less effective after one year in the soil? Give your reasons.
  • With the advent of Termidor dust, Termidor liquid is no longer the preferred method of treating the soil and termites under a Green Termite Bait via the bait. List three instances where using the liquid would be more effective than the dust.
  • Name three reasons why Termidor liquid may become repellent to termites and not suitable for use in a Green Termite Bait.

Chemical Application to Timber

  • List two situations where you would recommend the use of timber preservative (such as Mabons) as part of an ITM program.
  • You have found active termites in the internal walls of a home. When would you use Termidor foam, give your reasons?
    • When would you use Termidor dust?
  • The Termiproof warranty requires two follow ups to be carried out after a treatment for active termites in a house. When are these follow-ups to be done?
  • At what point does the home owner qualify to receive a Termiproof warranty?
  • Under what circumstances would you treat a timber retaining wall at a property? List two methods.
  • Are external timbers such as fences covered by the Termiproof warranty?
