Hello and Welcome to the June Greenpest News. Each month we aim to provide you with some useful information, keeping it short, sweet and pertinent.

Pest Talk

Is the Green Termite Bait System the Best Commercially Available Termite Bait System in Australia?

Next week the AEPMA (Australian Environmental Pest Managers Association) annual national conference will be held in Coff's Harbour and Green Termite Bait Systems will be there, as we were at last year's conference. We have a display booth and we will be talking one on one with interested pest control companies from across Australia (and some from overseas too) and this year we will be pushing but one message.

“The Green Termite Bait System IS the Best Commercially Available Termite Bait System in Australia!?

We will back this claim two ways. Firstly, we will list the numerous ways that the Green Termite Bait System is superior. You can see some of these claims for yourself by clicking here.

Secondly, we will be “putting our money where our mouth is?, to use the vernacular. We will be putting up $5,000 to anyone who can prove the above statement to be wrong. All the major players in termite control will be there, so it will be interesting to see if they are prepared to accept the challenge. We doubt it, but we are genuinely hoping someone will be foolish enough to try, since the resulting debate can only help to highlight the plain superiority of the Green Termite Bait System.

We have run a similar promotion on our highly ranked web site for over 5 years, with one slight variation. See if you can spot it: The Green Termite Bait System IS the Best Value For Money Commercially Available Termite Bait System in Australia!

There are two huge reasons why we have absolute confidence in our product. Firstly we have statistically provable evidence from over 11 years of collected data from hundreds of homes, that when the Green Termite Bait System is used according to directions, it genuinely works at preventing major termite damage occurring in homes better than 99.9% of the time.

And the second reason is that finally, Termidor Dust is now on the market and fully available to all licenced pest controllers around the country. (Sorry, but the public cannot buy it, so please don't ask us to sell it to you directly.)

Termidor Dust costs us wholesale, over $18,000 per kilogram. Ouch! It's one of the reasons we have had our recent price rise. Of course if you have read our previous newsletters you will already be familiar with how absolutely brilliant this product is at quickly eliminating a termite nest. Now, when we treat a Green Termite Bait with Termidor Dust, you could say that the termites are truly “down and dusted? or that they have “bitten the dust!?

Termidor Dust is state of the art technology. Termites simply don't stand a chance. It is vastly superior to old fashioned insect growth regulators because it acts much faster than an IGR. Most other termite bait systems are still using old technology. They are still taking months to kill a nest using sloppy porridge mixes containing IGR's in plastic bait stations with dodgy results.

One of the major advantages of the Green Termite Bait System over the past 11 years has been it's versatility. From 1996 – 2000 the baits were treated with Arsenic Trioxide (the only dust available at the time). From 2000 – 2007 we effectively used Intrigue Dust. It worked ideally in our bait system and gave colony elimination in under 8 weeks for all major termite species of economic significance. Now with Termidor Dust, we have colony elimination in an average of 2 – 4 weeks and it is equally effective against ALL species of termite.

This is great news for anyone using the Green Termite Bait System. If you are not dealing directly with us or one of our authorised distributors, then you need to ask your local pest control company to ensure that they treat your baits with Termidor Dust whenever it is practical. Please refer them to us if they resist.

Why would they resist? You might well ask... Two reasons, firstly getting people to change or try new things is always difficult. That's human nature. Secondly, Termidor Dust is expensive.

When Intrigue Dust was released in 2000, it was 10 times the price of Arsenic Trioxide and many pesties never bothered to even try it. A few incompetent clowns with vested interests elsewhere put out the word that Intrigue Dust was no good (in fact it was their 'method' of using the dust that was no good) and the rumour mill in the in the pest control industry ensured that many pesties never ever even bothered to even try it for themselves. That is not surprising when you consider that less than 5% of pest controllers have any sort of university qualifications.

So, what do you think might happen when we tell you that Termidor Dust is 4 times more expensive than Intrigue? It's up to you, the buyer, to insist on Termidor when you need your baits treated. If one company won't offer it, call another. If you are still having trouble, let us know and we will see what we can do. If they are not totally pig headed, we should be able to convince them to give it a go.

Are above ground bait stations obsolete?

Until recently, if you had termite activity in an awkward area of your home, or just in one small spot, the only choice many people were offered was to have a big ugly above ground termite bait box stuck over the active area. The termites were then enticed (not always successfully) into the porridge mixture in the box and feed a growth inhibitor via the bait matrix over a period of several months. The above ground station would need regular monitoring and top ups and the overall cost to the home owner could be substantial, to say the least.

In our opinion, Termidor Dust and the new labelling for Termidor liquid (foam application) has made the Above Ground Termite Baiting/Feeding Station obsolete in the vast majority of typical situations.

No longer do home owners have to tolerate an ugly box pasted onto a wall for months at a time. One effective treatment with Termidor Dust is quick, neat and tidy and the termites will most likely be fully eliminated within 2 – 4 weeks. Outstanding!

In most cases additional termite management will be advised, but this has always been the case and is simply a couple of sensible precautions that should be carried out for the long term protection of the home:

  • Locate and treat the entry point of the termites to the home.
  • Install long term termite risk management, either:
    • An effective Termite Baiting System
    • Or a thorough chemical treated zone around all areas where termites may gain access to the house.

It's that simple. Don't leave out any steps and your home should be safe.

More Evidence.

We recently sent some samples of our baits to a new distributor in North Queensland. He knew that he had a very active colony of termites in his back yard. He had an Exterra bait in place in the ground for some time without a strike.

A Green Termite Bait was placed in the ground near the Exterra bait and within 4 weeks the Green Termite Bait was fully active with termites.

A great "sales" tool.

There are many companies out there that promote a $100,000 timber replacement warranty. We are not one of them. Exterra is. And the way it stands, we don't ever want to be.

If you ever get a chance to read the fine print on the full warranty, you will understand why. Better yet, have your solicitor read ALL the fine print and tell you its true value. If you do decide take up this warranty option (regardless of what we say here) make sure you understand what you AND your pest control company MUST DO to comply with all terms of the warranty to ensure that you might possibly be able to make a successful legitimate claim sometime in the future when you most need it.

It might start to get a little expensive.

The warranty is touted to the pest control industry as a fantastic sales tool. We agree… that it is! We can't blame some companies for using it to make a sale. But is it ethical?

Sadly, when it comes to money, ethics can go out the window all too easily. Nobody is perfect, including us. We don't mean to be on a high horse here, but someone has to speak out and say what everyone in the pest control industry knows!

If it sounds too good to be true…

Don't be misled.

There is a certain company promoting a complete cockroach, spider and ant treatment with a full 12 month warranty, including a one page written termite report for just $220 for any size home. The whole job will take about 1½ hours!

We've had calls from several of their disgruntled customers who have been very disappointed with what they received versus what was promised.

It's not surprising. A written termite report should take at least 2 hours. A cockroach, spider and ant treatment in and out should take at least 1½ hours.

This clever company has received accolades in certain franchising magazines for their business acumen and marketing strategies, but that doesn't mean they are doing the right thing by the customer. If you remember, Onetel and HIH were also once the darlings of the marketing industry, before crashing and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

You don't have to be a particularly clairvoyant prophet to see the writing on the wall for this unscrupulous company.

We say this over and over again in our newsletters… “BUYER BEWARE!?

Customer Question of the Month.

Question:

Is it safe to use Green Termite Baits in my herb garden?

Michelle G – CLONTARF, QLD.

Answer:

The answer to this question is that the Green Termite Bait System is 100% safe to use in herb gardens or vege-patches. This is for two reasons:

  1. Before treatment they are completely non-toxic. They are not chemically treated in any way. They are simply natural radiata pine, a termite's favourite food.
  2. When the termite bait becomes active, the ¼ - ½ gram of Termidor Dust that is applied to the bait will be mostly consumed or removed by the termites when it adheres to their bodies. Any slight residual left within the bait will be removed when the bait is replaced 4 weeks later after eradication of the termites is confirmed. Any Termidor residual left in the soil would be so miniscule as to be considered completely negligible and absolutely harmless to us, pets or wildlife.

The same can be said if the Green Termite Bait is bait treated with an IGR such as Intrigue Dust.

If the Green Termite Bait is treated with any other product, then it would be advisable to read the label and access the MSDS for that particular product to ascertain if there is any risk.
